The Littlest Innkeeper

During the past few weeks, there was a turn of events at Blue Door that left a huge void in the hearts of your innkeepers, Roger and Cecelia. We are very grateful for the many notes we have received on the passing our beloved cat, Megan. On June 4, we said goodbye. The void reaches well beyond us individually. It was everywhere at the Blue Door from our quarters, through our corridors, in our common areas, and at our side in those places you know innkeepers must go to make everything prefect for your stay (nice warm  running clothes dryers and computer equipment). We will miss “Miss Megan” and her very special attitude for a very long time.

Innkeeping is one of those professions where the smallest thing can create longtime friends in an instant. Many of our previous guests had that experience upon meeting Megan, our very special Silver-Gray Glitter Bengal cat. Looking more like a kitten (“small and tiny” as we would say) versus the cat in her early teens, she was our very special greeter and quick loving fix for home-sick travelers missing their pets. As we know, cats and tables set for eating do not go together, so your morning greeting, if everyone agreed, would need to wait until after breakfast was finished. Even those who could take or leave meeting a cat could not resist this little one walking along the second floor banister, Olympic Style, or waiting at their door (if they were so inclined) when returning to the Blue Door after a day of exploring. We sometimes were told at check-in that the reason folks chose the Blue Door was for the opportunity to meet our lady Bengal. We have to admit there was no cat like her. Read more about Bengals here.

Time does go on, but we have found it very hard to deal with the emptiness left without Megan.  Bengals are a very unique breed of exotic cat. They are people cats, super inquisitive and friendly, having hypoallergenic qualities with the pelt-like coat (NO ALLERGIES for Cecelia), very active, seeking high places to watch people (the objects of their fun), and as most of our guests have learned quite talkative.  If you did not know better you would more think of a Bengal being a sleek little dog, very trainable and respecting of a person’s space, rather than a cat running prone to hide from a new face.  All that being said the stillness at the Blue Door is deafening without Megan.

We did not get to meet Megan during our stay because she had passed. We did get to meet Leopold, and he is a gorgeous kitty. We are sure he will bring you just as much pleasure as Megan. Our visit was wonderful, and we look forward to visiting again soon.
